About NEW PORT RICHEY
Covers New Port Richey, Florida
The entire Florida Gulf Coast...in detail !

New Port Richey, and its sister city, Port Richey, are most well known as retirement communities and are located on the sunny Gulf Coast of Florida in Pasco County, just a half hour north of Tampa Bay and ninety minutes away from Orlando. New Port Richey's climate is temperate, like the rest of the Floridian Gulf Coast. The population of New Port Richey is approximately 16,000.

Settlement had been occurring for much of the half-century prior to the establishment of New Port Richey, but New Port Richey itself was not officially incorporated until February 1916. A post office, newspaper, a fire department, a drug store and the Cotee River Community Club were all established in quick succession. From that point on, New Port Richey's population began to expand rapidly, and commerce and culture followed shortly after.

New Port Richey has direct access to the Gulf of Mexico via the Pithlachascotee River, where it is possible to rent a boat and explore the wild, jungle-like areas of the river. As a result of this close proximity, all varieties of water sports are available, from water skiing and Jet skiing, to sailing and snorkeling, to fishing and kayaking. There is also deep sea fishing, sailing, scuba diving…the list is endless. Guides and outfitters in the area are ready to help visitors to the area get started on their water adventures.

For those who cannot be tempted by the warm waters of the Gulf, New Port Richey and the surrounding areas offer much in the way of recreation, entertainment and culture. Eco-tours are a wonderful way to see the wild beauty the Nature Coast is so famous for, while learning about the environment and ways to protect it at the same time. In addition, street festivals, cultural events and flea markets are always happening in one part of the area or another, and golf courses, some of which are PGA quality, can be found almost everywhere. Several well-groomed and maintained parks and trails are also available for biking, hiking, walking or just exploring.

Nearby Tampa Bay and Orlando also have much in the way of recreation. From live music to professional sports events, fine arts museums to greyhound racing tracks, and of course, the world famous theme parks of Central Florida, there is always something to do and it's all just a short drive away!
