Hermosa Beach
Hermosa Beach is a quintessential California beach town which occupies just 1.4 square miles on the South Bay coastline. Hermosa (meaning “beautiful” in Spanish) enjoys an average temperature of 70 degrees in the summer and 55 degrees in the winter. The gentle ocean breezes also keep the smog away, so it is the perfect beach getaway for those residing in nearby Los Angeles.
The beaches are wide, sandy and clean. In 2004, Reader’s Digest named Hermosa Beach the best beach on the US mainland. There are plenty of activities you can do here such as volleyball, paddleball, surfing or boogey boarding. The famous Strand which parallels the beach is perfect for biking, jogging, skateboarding or rollerblading, and the many beautiful residences on the Strand make for architectural eye-candy.
If you forgot to bring beach equipment, no need to worry as there are plenty of places to rent. Other options of recreation include taking a walk on the century-old pier, shopping on Pier Avenue or enjoying the one of the many fine dining establishments. Extend your entertainment into the evening by visiting a nightclub or seeing a show at the nationally famous Comedy and Magic Club.
